The Opportunity
Our client, a highly respected professional services organization, is seeking an experienced Office & Human Resources Administrator to oversee the day-to-day operations of its Washington, DC office while serving as a key resource for employees, attorneys, and firm leadership.
This is a highly visible, multifaceted hybrid role that combines human resources, office administration, facilities, employee relations, and business operations. The ideal candidate will enjoy being the person who keeps the office running smoothly while also playing an important role in supporting employees and partnering with leadership on HR and operational initiatives.

Why This Role Is Exciting
This is more than a traditional office administration position. You will serve as a trusted point of contact for the DC office, working closely with firm leadership and the Chief Human Resources Officer on matters involving employees, staffing, compensation, office operations, and workplace initiatives.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Serve as a key HR and operational resource for the Washington, DC office.
- Partner directly with firm leadership and senior HR executives.
- Support the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding through offboarding.
- Advise employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and workplace matters.
- Influence office culture, employee engagement, and the overall workplace experience.
- Lead initiatives that improve office efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Manage vendors, facilities, budgets, and other critical office functions.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources & Employee Relations
- Manage day-to-day HR activities for the DC office, supporting onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, performance management, and other employee lifecycle processes.
- Serve as a resource to attorneys, professional staff, and managers regarding HR policies and workplace matters.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
- Assist with benefits administration, leave management, and employee communications.
- Support training, professional development, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Assist with reviewing and updating HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable employment laws.
- Monitor employee evaluations and ensure feedback is completed in a timely manner.
- Partner with the Chief Human Resources Officer on professional staff salary and bonus reviews.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements.
Office & Business Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the Washington, DC office, ensuring an efficient, professional, and welcoming environment.
- Coordinate professional staff schedules, assignments, and workload distribution.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the DC office and firm leadership on operational matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve office processes, efficiency, and service levels.
- Prepare operational reports and provide recommendations regarding staffing and office needs.
- Assist with special projects, firm initiatives, and office events.
Facilities & Vendor Management
- Oversee office facilities, maintenance, repairs, space planning, and general workplace needs.
- Coordinate with building management, vendors, and service providers to ensure smooth and uninterrupted office operations.
- Manage office equipment, supplies, inventory, and purchasing.
- Oversee office budgets, expenses, and vendor relationships.
- Help ensure workplace safety standards and applicable compliance requirements are maintained.
- Coordinate off-site document storage and destruction as necessary.
Employee & Workplace Experience
- Help create a professional, organized, collaborative, and welcoming environment for employees, attorneys, and clients.
- Provide guidance and support to professional staff and attorneys as appropriate.
- Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen the employee experience.
- Support initiatives designed to enhance communication, engagement, professional development, and workplace effectiveness.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is a seasoned HR and operations professional who enjoys a role with variety, visibility, and responsibility. You are comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and interacting with professionals at all levels of an organization.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in HR, office administration, operations management, or a related discipline.
- Experience within a law firm or sophisticated professional services environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing office operations, facilities, and administrative functions.
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, employee relations, and employment law.
- Experience with employee lifecycle administration, benefits, performance management, and HR policies.
- Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Exceptional discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with senior leadership and colleagues.
- Flexibility to support occasional meetings, special projects, or events outside standard business hours when needed.

You are someone who can move seamlessly between HR and operations advising an employee on an HR matter in the morning, working with a vendor or building management in the afternoon, and partnering with leadership on staffing or compensation issues later that day.

Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is particularly valuable because you understand the importance of confidentiality, responsiveness, attention to detail, and providing exceptional support to demanding professionals.

This is a Hybrid office leadership and operations role supporting the DC office. The position requires flexibility to meet business needs, including occasional meetings, special events, or initiatives outside normal business hours.
