We are partnering with a highly respected Am Law 200 law firm to hire an Estate Administrator in its Boston office.

Reporting to the firm’s Trusts & Estates team, this position will play a critical role in managing the administration of taxable estates, including estates with complex and illiquid assets, while serving as a trusted resource to attorneys, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and outside advisors throughout the estate administration process.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of estate administration from probate through final distribution
• Prepare and file Massachusetts Probate Court documents and oversee related proceedings
• Prepare and review probate accountings
• Prepare Federal and Massachusetts estate tax returns, as well as other state estate tax returns as required
• Collect, value, and inventory estate assets
• Calculate estate tax estimates, commissions, and distribution allocations
• Prepare instruments of distribution, receipts, releases, and related estate administration documents
• Coordinate and execute post-mortem tax planning strategies with attorneys and tax professionals
• Facilitate transfers of assets to beneficiaries and trusts
• Assist with funding formula distributions to marital and exemption trusts
• Review and process estate and trust account activity, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation
• Prepare correspondence and communicate regularly with clients, beneficiaries, fiduciaries, and outside advisors
• Serve as a reliable resource to attorneys, fiduciaries, and family members throughout the estate administration process

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• No less than 5 years of estate and trust administration experience (Law firm or professional services strongly preferred)
• Experience administering Massachusetts probate and estate matters
• Experience preparing or assisting with Federal and state estate tax returns – IRS Form 706 experience a big plus but not required
• Strong working knowledge of estate planning techniques and Federal and Massachusetts estate and fiduciary income tax laws
• Experience with GEMS estate tax software is a plus
• Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PDF software
