Summary: Enhances attorney effectiveness by independently handling aspects of discharge planning and mental hygiene litigation with minimal supervision. Requires a paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies and 5 or more years of litigation experience.
Reporting Responsibility: Reports to Partner and Paralegal Manager.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Prepare, serve and file court papers for discharge planning and mental hygiene litigation
- Coordinate filings with process server
- Communicate extensively with clients
- Prepare Firm audit response letters
- Draft correspondence and assist with calendaring
- Handle electronic filing and service of legal documents for New Jersey, New York and Connecticut state courts, All Federal Courts, Surrogate’s Court and Bankruptcy Court
- Conduct Legal Research and gather relevant information from a variety of sources
- Assist in organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices
- Cite check and shepardize briefs
- Assist in bate stamping of documents, hyperlinking and bookmarking
- Willing to cross train in other areas of law
- Assume additional responsibilities as required to meet needs of Firm
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; must be available for overtime
- Ability to effectively multi-task and work independently
- Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information
- Knowledge of legal research methods
- Good typing skills, thorough and accurate
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Familiarity with Elite 3E Workplace Time Entry timekeeping program or similar program
- Familiarity with NetDocuments document management system or similar system
- Well-developed interpersonal and client relation skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
Education and Experience:
- Paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies and 5 or more years of litigation experience
