The Position
The Finance Manager will oversee day-to-day and strategic financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and forecasting. This role requires a strong understanding of modified cash basis accounting as used in a professional service firm, as well as the ability to review financial data and ensure accuracy and completeness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Controller
- Manage the monthly and annual close process for modified cash basis financials
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports and performance metrics
- Spearhead annual budget process, and re-forecasts as needed
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide valuable insight as to actual to budget variance and future projections
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, the general ledger and chart of accounts
- Coordinate with colleagues in various departments to review and correct financial errors/mispostings resulting from variance analysis and reconciliations
- Support external CPA firm during annual review and preparation of partner K1s and firm tax returns
- Prepare or review journal entries, expense and office allocations, bank reconciliations and other reconciliations on a monthly basis
- Ensure timely preparation and delivery of department level monthly financial reports for firm Directors
- Lead and mentor a finance and accounting team of 9
- Manage relationships with external parties including bank representations, insurance agents, tax authorities, etc.
- Provide ad-hoc reporting that delivers valuable financial insight to decision makers
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA a plus
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, as well as experience in a supervisory or management role
- Experience working in Professional Services Firm preferred with prior public accounting a plus.
- Solid experience with modified cash basis accounting and preparation of financial statements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with BI reporting software a plus
- Experience with Aderant Expert Sierra preferred. Experience with AS400/LMS a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and ensure team delivers high quality work on time
