OVERVIEW
A leading law firm with more than 900 attorneys across offices in the United States and internationally delivers innovative legal solutions to a diverse client base facing today’s legal and business challenges. This role is based in the firm’s Houston office, and only local candidates will be considered.

SUMMARY
The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive administrative support to multiple Partners, along with senior and junior members of the Legal Team. Responsibilities include managing confidential and complex matters such as calendar coordination, document preparation and formatting, court filings, meeting logistics, project support, and relationship management. The successful candidate will be highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities while exercising discretion with sensitive information. This role requires maintaining professional, positive relationships with clients, attorneys, and staff, while consistently observing firm and client confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Calendar Management: Monitor litigation deadlines and ensure accurate docketing. Coordinate attorney schedules to reduce conflicts, avoid double bookings, and proactively evaluate scheduling priorities.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, including complaints, answers, discovery, briefs, motions, motions for summary judgment, correspondence, and memoranda.
  • Handle a high volume of court filings in state, federal, and appellate courts.
  • Research laws, regulations, and legal publications to support case development, reports, and legal analysis.
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic files promptly and accurately; create and maintain working files and binders as requested.
  • Use firm-approved software to store email communications and manage document retrieval.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as opening new matters, initiating conflict checks, coordinating travel with the firm’s travel department, assisting with client billing and proformas, and maintaining electronic and hard-copy files.
  • Conduct regular file reviews for storage or closure and prepare files for archiving.
  • Provide backup support to attorneys and timekeepers as needed; assist with overflow work and contribute to team efficiency and collaboration.
  • Maintain awareness of key clients and contacts.
  • Work onsite at least four days per week, with flexibility to work five days during periods of heavy trial, hearing, or meeting schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience or interest in general office administrative support is a plus.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting trial and/or commercial litigation matters.
  • Prior large law firm experience is required.
