Payroll & Benefits Coordinator

Our client, a well-known and highly respected law firm, is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to join their New Jersey office. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys owning the full payroll process while providing high-touch service to employees in a professional, fast-paced environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, and serving as a trusted resource for employee payroll and benefits inquiries. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, discreet, and thrives in a role where precision and confidentiality are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Manage end-to-end payroll and benefits processing using ADP Workforce Now, including data imports, audits, and reconciliations
- Review and verify timecards, hours worked, overtime, and leave accruals
- Validate payroll data prior to submission to ensure accuracy and completeness
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure payroll operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations
- Process and maintain garnishments, deductions, and wage assignments
- Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax filings and reconciliations
- Support year-end processes, including W-2 preparation and payroll audits
Employee Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll and benefits questions
- Provide clear, professional, and timely responses to inquiries
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with sensitive employee data
- Assist with new-hire onboarding related to payroll, benefits, and timekeeping systems
Systems & Data Management
- Maintain accurate payroll records, employee changes, and system updates
- Reconcile payroll accounts and partner with Finance on general ledger postings
- Collaborate with HR and IT to resolve system issues and support enhancements
Benefits Administration
- Provide employee benefits counseling and support
- Review monthly premium statements for medical and life insurance plans
- Maintain relationships with insurance carriers and brokers to manage enrollments and resolve issues
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now payroll and benefits modules
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, formatting, validation)
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage & hour compliance
- Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-state payroll
- General ledger accounting knowledge
- Payroll certification (FPC or CPP)
- Prior law firm or professional services experience
