Bankruptcy Paralegal Position
Responsibilities
- E-file documents in federal and state courts, generally and more particularly with U.S. Bankruptcy Courts.
- Monitor and review court dockets for case tracking, deadlines, and updates.
- Knowledge of general bankruptcy rules as well as local rules, practices, and procedures to assist attorneys with jurisdiction-specific case management requirements.
- Manage case calendars, task lists, and critical date trackers; maintain organized case files for complex Chapter 11 matters, including official committee and individual creditor representations.
- Work with bankruptcy team to draft and file papers such as notices, proofs of claim, and retention and fee applications.
- Maintain and organize case files and documents.
- Knowledge of bankruptcy rules and practices to keep compliant timekeeping records for billable matters and to prepare fee applications and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate hearing logistics, including arranging attorney appearances and compiling hearing materials.
- Provide support for hearings and trials, including document preparation and logistical assistance.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of bankruptcy experience, ideally in a law firm or legal services environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with general bankruptcy matters and debtor bankruptcy practice in particular, including familiarity with court pleadings, claims reconciliation, and core bankruptcy principles.
- Proficiency in electronic court filings using the Pacer CM/ECF system, claims agent websites, and Octus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to quickly learn new skills and information.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with different personalities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF editing software (such as Adobe Acrobat or Kofax), Relativity.
