A national plaintiffs’ law firm has an opening in its mass tort practice group for a paralegal, specifically for its litigations involving sensitive matters of abuse. The position will be working on a hybrid schedule (after an initial training period) based in the firm’s NJ office. The paralegal will work on cases involving victims of systematic abuse by members of the New York Diocese and be responsible for the day-to-day management of their assigned caseload.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ordering, obtaining and reviewing medical records
- Drafting clear and concise summaries for assigned cases
- Drafting interrogatories and other discovery responses
- Preparing claim packages for settlement
- Responding to client inquiries for status updates
- Conducting new client intake
- Assisting supervising attorneys with ad hoc projects
REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate must possess the following attributes:
- B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution
- 1-3 years of experience in a mass tort, products liability, or personal injury practice
- Ability to speak and work with clients regarding extremely sensitive subject material
- Strong academic credentials
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to multitask several time-critical projects under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability and desire to work on matters beyond regular business hours
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Superior problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
- Strong general research and writing abilities
- Professional, collegial and friendly demeanor
The following attributes are preferred, but not required:
- A.S./A.A.S in paralegal studies or other paralegal certification
- Familiarity with case and document management software
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in MS Office
- Fluency in Spanish
