Position Summary: The Insurance Defense Associate plays a crucial role in representing clients in legal proceedings, conducting research, preparing legal documents and pleadings, managing discovery, and assisting partners and clients in legal transactions.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Efficiently manage multiple cases concurrently.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, and discovery documents promptly for opposing parties.
- Participate in mediations, hearings, and depositions as required.
- Interact with clients, resolving problems related to cases.
- Implement best practices and standards in handling clients and their cases.
- Evaluate findings, develop strategies, and formulate arguments in preparation for case presentations.
- Complete reports and projects on time, adhering to partner and client needs/guidelines.
- Record billable hours accurately and in a timely manner, following client guidelines and firm policy.
- Maintain a minimum billable time of 1900 hours.
Position Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to comprehend complex matters, identify core issues, and understand applicable legal principles.
- Proven time-management and organizational skills, including prioritization of issues and tasks.
- Keen eye for detail, coupled with exceptional research and proofreading abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of legal procedures and current developments.
- Working knowledge of computers, with the ability to maintain, update, and modify documents.
- Proficiency in relevant technology competencies such as Westlaw and time-billing software.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Strong research and legal writing skills.
- Willingness to work additional hours as deemed necessary based on case load.
Educational Requirements and Compensation:
- J.D. from an accredited ABA law school.
- 1+ years of experience.
- Salary commensurate with experience and skills.
