Our client, a prestigious Law Firm in Washington DC, is looking for a Director of Compliance and Tax.
In this role, you will be responsible for all aspect of the firm’s global tax compliance including, but not limited to, income tax, revenue tax, value added tax, state and local tax, property tax, and personal tax related to international assignments. Provide strategic guidance to firm leadership on tax and compliance implications of expanding markets, new acquisitions, and changes to laws and practices.
• Manage preparation of the firm’s annual tax filings, including distribution of Schedule K1 (and other similar schedules) to the firm’s partners, as well as quarterly estimates of taxable earnings. • Primary contact for firm partners on tax related questions. Manage the annual election process of firm partners into composite tax returns. • Independently maintain knowledge of upcoming and recent developments in taxation globally that may impact the firm’s tax position. • Implement new tax strategies to reduce the firm’s and individual partners’ tax liabilities. • Provide written advice to the firm’s Chief Financial Officer and Tax Matters Representative on tax positions and strategy. • Continuous evaluation of the firm’s global tax strategy to minimize global tax liabilities. • Manage the calculations of fixed asset depreciation for tax purposes and reconcile against book. • Provide advice on employee mobility and permanent establishment issues. • Ensure the firm’s expenses are managed and recorded in a tax efficient matter. • Manage determination of tax equalizations for partners on international assignments. • Coordinate with People Operations to ensure benefits and other employee programs are tax efficient. Support the People Operations team in the firm’s annual employee benefit plan audits. Non-Essential Functions • Perform other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or other related field. • Certified Public Accountant (CPA). • 7 to 10 years of relevant tax experience and a minimum of three years supervisory experience. A strong preference to candidates who have previous professional services experience. • Deep experience performing compliance work for large multi-state and international partnerships. • Knowledge of complicated tax subjects and, as importantly, the ability to explain them to others who are not tax experts (firm partners) including, but not limited to, pass through entity tax, value added tax, foreign tax credits, and permanent establishment issues. • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. • Strong detail-orientation and organizational skills.
