Chief Financial Officer
A prominent, multi-office law firm is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its financial strategy, operations, and reporting functions. Reporting to firm leadership, the CFO will oversee a finance department of approximately 25 professionals, including a team of directors and managers, and serve as a key strategic advisor on profitability, pricing, cash flow, capital allocation, and long-term financial planning. This is a succession opportunity for an experienced finance executive to build upon an established department while helping drive significant improvements in financial systems, reporting, and operational efficiency.
The CFO will oversee all core accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tax compliance, internal controls, audit coordination, trust accounting, and partner capital and distributions. The role will also lead financial analysis supporting practice group performance, client and matter profitability, pricing strategies, alternative fee arrangements, and partner compensation modeling. In partnership with firm leadership and practice group heads, the CFO will identify opportunities to improve financial performance, strengthen working capital, enhance realization and collections, and support strategic decisions involving growth, lateral acquisitions, and practice investments.
The successful candidate will bring substantial financial leadership experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment, along with a strong understanding of partnership economics, partner compensation, and the financial drivers of a professional services organization. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business recommendations. Experience leading finance teams, modernizing financial systems, strengthening controls, and partnering effectively with senior leadership is essential.
