The Litigation Paralegal works directly with our attorneys providing legal assistance and support. This full-time position is located in New York, NY and reports to the Office Manager.
Essential Functions
- Assist attorneys with management of all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, deposition preparation, motion practice and trial preparation in New York State and Federal Courts.
- Assist with drafting pleadings, discovery demands and responses, discovery requests, briefs, subpoenas, and motions, including but not limited, assistance with legal and factual cite checking, and bluebooking.
- Track discovery and document productions, often using database software to manage document productions.
- Conduct document review and analysis.
- Serve as liaison between attorneys and clients to provide case updates and gather information.
- Prepare case summaries and collaborate with attorneys to develop case strategy.
- Electronic filing of court documents in NYSCEF and Federal Courts.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys and colleagues while managing independent responsibilities.
- Assemble trial notebooks, coordinate witness appearances, organize exhibits, and assist attorneys during hearings and trials.
- Oversee and train assistants to file organization, and other appropriate tasks.
- Coordinate with Firms Managing Clerk Team to maintain all aspects of case calendars and track matter deadlines.
- Perform research pertaining to Federal Rules, Local Rules and Practices and miscellaneous issues utilizing firms internet and firms research platform subscriptions.
- Occasional trips to courts to file, retriever & delivery courtesy copies of documents.
Liaise with internal and external resources as needed.
Competencies
- Bachelors Degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
- 5+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal
- Experience with Federal Court trials
- Extensive knowledge of the FRCP/CPLR and court rules and procedures in New York State and Federal Courts.
- Experience utilizing E-discovery platforms
- Experience with electronic filing in NYSCEF and PACER/ECF.
- Experience using legal databases, such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Extraordinary attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently and complete a high volume of work in a timely manner;
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments while consistently delivering quality work product to both attorneys and clients;
- Proven experience performing under pressure in a fast paced environment, both individually and within a team setting;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, Excel, Lexis and iManage Document Management System.
