A Washington, D.C.–based law firm is seeking a Patent Paralegal to join its Intellectual Property practice. This role works closely with the IP practice group and Senior Paralegals and offers a unique opportunity for hands‑on mentoring and long‑term professional growth within a single‑office environment.

The ideal candidate will have exposure to legal processes and practice‑group–specific procedures and is looking to build a career with a highly regarded firm known for its top professional trial teams.


Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chief Paralegal Services Officer, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing paralegal support to attorneys, senior paralegals, and case managers through all phases of litigation
  • Managing all case materials, including electronic files and database applications
  • Obtaining documents from, and filing materials with, federal and local courts and agencies
  • Performing factual and legal research
  • Tracking the flow of information and case materials throughout the lifecycle of matters
  • Coordinating with outside vendors and service providers
  • Assisting attorneys with preparation for depositions, trials, and arbitrations
  • Proactively managing logistics, exhibits, filings, and deadlines to support litigation needs

Required Skills, Abilities & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of litigation experience
  • Familiarity with searching techniques and strategies used to develop, collect, and organize patent‑related resources and references
  • Knowledge of proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) preferred
  • Experience with District Court proceedings in Hatch‑Waxman cases preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills
  • Proven ability to multitask and work effectively under tight deadlines

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with litigation support applications such as Relativity, CaseMap, and Case Notebook preferred

Work Schedule & Flexibility

  • Standard hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays is required as needed
  • After successful completion of the introductory period, the candidate will be eligible to work the department’s approved hybrid schedule
