Our client has an immediate opening for a Business Development Specialist in their Washington, DC office.

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for marketing and business development for several Firmwide practice and industry groups as well as contribute to Client Development efforts for their designated office. The Specialist works closely with the Business Development Directors and Managers, individual partners, and office heads on the development and execution of business development strategy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strategizes and advises practice and industry group leaders and the Managing Partner of their designated office on the development and execution of business development strategy.
  • Provides guidance and advises attorneys on how to effectively implement and execute business development goals and initiatives.
  • Drafts and prepares pitches, RFP responses, presentations, talking points and background briefing materials.
  • Manages submissions to rankings, directories and other publications and contests.
  • Creates marketing materials including collaterals, website content and one-off pieces to support business development efforts.
  • Establishes the agenda and organizes practice and industry group and office meetings, as needed.
  • Gathers intelligence, along with our Competitive Intelligence team, on firm clients / targets and market trends to provide practice and industry group attorneys with an understanding of the competitive landscape and to position the firm for increased effectiveness in winning new business.
  • Plans and implements CLE events, sponsorships, client meetings as well as in-person and virtual events. Supports event needs including materials (i.e., drafting copy for event invitations and sponsorships) and oversees event logistics.
  • Prepares and tracks Client Development budgets for assigned practice and industry groups.
  • Partners with the Communications team on public relations opportunities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a marketing, business or communications-related field is highly preferred, as is an advanced degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a marketing and/or business development-related position in a professional services environment; law firm experience is strongly preferred.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and has the ability to multitask.
  • Highly customer service oriented, technologically savvy, organized, and meticulous.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in a multiple leader, team oriented, and fast-paced environment.
